Ceiling Fan Installation & Repair Singapore

A ceiling fan is one of those things you only really notice when it stops working — or when you finally decide to install one in that stubborn room that the aircon never quite reaches. Either way, it is a job for a licensed electrician, not a handyman with a drill.

TRUST ELECTRICIANS provides complete ceiling fan installation, replacement, and repair services in Singapore for HDB flats, condominiums, and landed houses. We supply, install, and service all the major brands — KDK, Fanco, Acorn, Crestar, Bestar, Haiku, Big Ass — and we know the exact wiring quirks of HDB BTO, resale, and condo false ceilings.

Ceiling Fan Installation (New Point or Replacement)

Whether you are fitting a fan into a brand new BTO that came without one, or replacing an old fan that has finally given up, we handle the full scope:

  • New fan point — running a new electrical spur from your DB box to the ceiling (for HDB flats where the original layout had no fan point), with proper cable routing through conduit, surface trunking, or concealed wiring where possible.
  • Replacement of existing fan — we unmount the old unit, check the existing wiring and mounting, swap in the new fan, balance the blades, and test.
  • False ceiling installation — for condos with plaster or gypsum false ceilings, we work with your false-ceiling contractor or coordinate directly to mount the fan on the correct bracing (a fan is much heavier than a light, so the bracing must be specified correctly before the ceiling is closed).
  • Concrete ceiling installation — we use the correct anchor type for the concrete grade, and check the existing wiring for adequate current rating.

Typical install time: 1–2 hours for a like-for-like replacement. 3–5 hours for a new fan point (where new cabling is required).

Ceiling Fan Repair (Wobbling, Noisy, Not Spinning, Remote Fault)

Most ceiling fan problems are not the fan itself — they are the controller, the capacitor, or the wiring. We diagnose and fix the common ones on the spot:

  • Wobbling or shaking — usually loose blade screws, a bent blade, or an unbalanced motor. We tighten, balance, and re-test.
  • Clicking or grinding noise — worn bearing or motor issue. We can usually replace just the bearing; if the motor is gone, we will tell you honestly whether a new fan is the better buy.
  • Fan not spinning but light works — almost always a failed capacitor. We replace it with a brand-new one rated for your specific fan.
  • Fan works on some speeds but not all — speed controller (capacitor) or wall regulator issue. We test and replace.
  • Remote control not responding — receiver module inside the fan, or the remote itself. We test both, and supply a new remote if needed.
  • Fan pulling to one side / running slow — capacitor or motor winding issue. Capacitor fix is cheap; motor replacement is sometimes the moment to consider a new fan.
  • Light kit on the fan flickering or dead — usually the LED driver, not the fan itself. We can replace just the driver.

If the fan is more than 10 years old and the motor itself is failing, we will usually recommend replacement rather than repair. The cost difference between a new fan and a motor swap is small, and you get a fresh warranty.

Ceiling Fan with Light Kit

Most modern ceiling fans in Singapore come with an integrated LED light kit — and they are brilliant for HDB rooms where you want both a fan and a ceiling light without two separate fixtures. We install and service:

  • 3-blade and 4-blade LED fans (KDK U60FW, Fanco Acon DC, Crestar Atlas, etc.)
  • DC motor fans (quieter, more energy-efficient, remote-controlled with multiple speeds and timer)
  • Smart Wi-Fi fans (app + voice control via Google Home / Alexa)

If you are replacing an old light-only ceiling fitting with a new fan-with-light, we will check that the existing wiring can handle the combined load, and add a new isolator at the DB if needed. For more on smart fan / smart light integrations, see our Smart Switch & Smart Home Installation page.

False Ceiling vs Concrete Ceiling Installation

Singapore has both, and the installation approach is very different:

  • Concrete ceiling (HDB and most resale flats): Standard mount with proper anchors. We use a laser level to ensure the fan sits flat (an off-level fan is the #1 cause of wobble).
  • False ceiling (most newer condos): The fan cannot be mounted directly to the false ceiling — it needs to be braced back to the concrete slab above. If your false ceiling is already closed, we work with your ID or false-ceiling contractor to retrofit a mounting block. If you are doing a renovation, ask your ID to specify a fan mounting point before the false ceiling is closed — it saves a lot of cost later.

⚠️ Important: A ceiling fan weighs 5–10 kg. A standard downlight weighs under 0.5 kg. Never mount a fan to a plaster false ceiling without proper bracing — the fan will come down.

HDB & Condo Ceiling Fan Installation

HDB Flats

Almost every HDB flat has at least one fan point (usually in the bedrooms and living room). The common issues we see:

  • BTO flats delivered with no fan point in the living room — we run a new spur from the lighting circuit.
  • Resale flats with original PY cable or old PVC wiring that does not have an earth — we add a proper earth when we install a new fan.
  • HDB living room fans installed by the previous owner with no isolator at the DB — we add a dedicated MCB so you can isolate the fan for maintenance.

Condominiums

  • MCST approval is sometimes required for ceiling fan installation in common-property areas (e.g. balcony, utility room). We can advise and help you prepare the submission.
  • For false ceilings, we coordinate with your ID for the right mounting point.
  • For high ceilings (3.5 m and above), we use a down-rod extension so the fan sits at the optimal height (about 2.5–2.8 m from the floor).

FAQs

A like-for-like replacement takes 1–2 hours. A new fan point (where the HDB flat has no existing wiring for the fan location) takes 3–5 hours including the new cable run from the DB box.

Yes — most of our customers do. Send us a photo or the model number before the appointment so we can confirm the mounting type and bring the right down-rod and bracket. We can also recommend a fan that suits your ceiling height and room size if you prefer to leave it to us.

Yes. For false ceilings, the fan must be braced back to the concrete slab above. If your false ceiling is already closed, we may need to open a small section to install the bracing. If you are doing a renovation, ask your ID to specify a fan mounting point before the false ceiling is closed — it saves cost and hassle.

In most cases, yes. Wobble is usually caused by loose blade screws, a bent blade, or an unbalanced motor. We tighten, balance, and re-test. If the motor itself is failing, we will tell you honestly whether a repair is worth it or whether replacement is the better option.

Yes. In most HDB flats, the light point in the room can be converted to a fan-and-light combination with minimal disruption. We check the existing cable rating, add a proper isolator at the DB, and install the fan with a light kit.

Yes — we can supply and fit 2-pin Schuko (Type F) or Euro (Type C) sockets on request. We will tell you upfront whether your specific appliance needs a step-down transformer, and we will always fit a properly earthed European-style outlet rather than a cheap ungrounded adaptor.
