Smart Light Switch Installation
A smart switch looks like a normal switch on the wall — same form factor, same Singapore Standard 85 × 85 mm face plate. The difference is what is inside: a small radio module (Wi-Fi, Zigbee, or Matter) that lets you control the switch from your phone, voice, or a schedule.
What you can do with a smart switch:
- Turn lights on or off from anywhere — useful for “did I leave the bedroom light on?” moments, or for letting the cleaner in while you are at work.
- Voice control via Google Home, Alexa, or Siri.
- Schedules — porch light on at sunset, kids’ room off at 9 pm, living room dimmed at 11 pm.
- Scenes — “Movie Night” turns off the main lights, dims the cove, and turns on the TV backlight in one tap.
- Motion or door triggers — corridor light on when the front door opens (with a smart door sensor).
- Away mode — randomise lights while you are on holiday.
For a single room, the basic smart switch setup takes 15–30 minutes per switch. For a whole-flat retrofit, typically half a day to a day, depending on the number of switches and whether the wiring is neutral or no-neutral.
