Signs Your Light Switch Needs Replacing
A light switch is a $20–$60 part and the labour is small, so once you notice a problem the answer is almost always "replace it". Most problems are a worn mechanism, loose back-terminal screws or a switch at the end of its life.
- Loose or wobblingThe rocker no longer clicks cleanly: the internal mechanism is worn.
- Cracking or popping when toggledThe internal contact is arcing, a fire precursor. Replace it promptly.
- Warm to the touchA switch should never be warm. It means a poor internal connection.
- Sparks or a small flashWhen you toggle it. Stop using it and call us.
- Light flickers when you wiggle itWorn contacts, not the bulb.

Two-Way & Intermediate Switching
Control one light from two, three or more places: a long corridor, a staircase landing, or a bedroom with two doors.
2-way switching
Two 2-way switches linked by a 3-core + earth cable. Most HDB flats already have at least one 2-way circuit, for example the corridor light switched from the main corridor and the bedroom.
Intermediate switching
2-way switches at the ends and one or more intermediate switches in the middle. What most landed staircases and long condo corridors actually need. The cable routing needs planning.
Corridor or staircase light with only one switch? We can usually add a second without breaking the wall, running the new cable through the ceiling void. Most common reason: a layout change after a renovation.

Many HDB and condo switches sit right next to a 13A socket on the same wall, and most homeowners want both updated at the same time.
We fit combined switch + socket plates in the standard 85 mm × 145 mm Singapore format, in all major brands. For a full-room or whole-flat re-look, combining both into a single visit is the most cost-effective way to do it, and many customers add a USB socket or two at the same time. Can I replace a light switch myself?
Singapore law (Electricity Act, Cap. 89A) treats light switch replacement as fixed-wiring electrical work, which legally requires a Licensed Electrical Worker. The back of a switch is always live, even when the switch is "off", so a wrong connection is a real shock and fire risk.
How long does a switch replacement take?
A single 1-gang or 2-gang switch replacement is 15–30 minutes. A multi-switch room or whole-flat re-look is 1–2 hours. Adding a new 2-way switch to an existing circuit is typically 1–2 hours including cable routing.
Can any LED light be dimmed?
No. Only LEDs marked "dimmable" can be dimmed reliably. Pairing a non-dimmable LED with a dimmer causes flicker, hum and early failure. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the lamp label.
My switch is warm to the touch. Is that normal?
No. A light switch should never be warm. Warmth means a loose connection, an overloaded circuit or a failing mechanism. Stop using the switch and call us for a same-day or next-day replacement.
Can you add a second switch to control the same light from another location?
Yes, that is a 2-way switching addition. Most HDB flats already have at least one 2-way circuit; for new ones, we usually run the cable through the ceiling void without breaking the wall.
