Lighting Installation & Repair Singapore

The right lighting changes a room more than almost any other upgrade. A warm dimmer in the dining room, clean downlights in the kitchen, a cove along the false ceiling in the living room, a strip light under the kitchen cabinet, magnetic track lights that you can re-aim any time — these are the small touches that make a home feel finished. They are also the upgrades that most often go wrong when the wiring is not done properly.

TRUST ELECTRICIANS provides complete lighting installation and repair services in Singapore for HDB flats, condominiums, and landed houses. We install, replace, and repair every common residential and commercial lighting type — LED ceiling lights, downlights, magnetic track lights, cove lighting, LED strips, outdoor and landscape lighting, and the wiring that supports them.

LED Ceiling Light Replacement & Repair

The most common lighting job in Singapore: an old fluorescent tube, a ceiling-mounted LED that has died, or a room that needs a brighter, more efficient light.

  • LED ceiling light replacement — we unmount the old fitting, check the existing wiring, mount the new LED ceiling light (or surface-mounted LED panel), and test. Most replacements take 30–60 minutes.
  • LED ceiling light repair — sometimes the LED is fine and the issue is the driver, the connector, or the dimmer. We test the lot and replace only the failed component.
  • Upgrading fluorescent to LED — for older HDB flats and resale units with T8 / T5 fluorescent ceiling lights, we can retrofit to a modern LED panel in the same footprint. Brighter, cooler-running, and significantly cheaper to run.

We supply and fit all common LED ceiling light brands: Philips, Osram, Panasonic, KDK, Tronic, Opple, and the major supermarket brands (IKEA, Taobao-sourced fittings are fine if they have a proper Singapore Standard mark).

LED Driver Replacement (Flickering / Dead Lights)

If your LED light is flickering, dimming unevenly, or has died well before its rated lifespan, the LED driver is the most likely culprit — not the LED itself. The driver is the small electronic box hidden behind the light or in the ceiling void that converts 230V AC to the low-voltage DC the LED runs on.

Common driver symptoms:

  • Flickering at all times — driver is failing or is mismatched to the LED load
  • Flickering only when dimmer is on low — driver is not dimmable, or is paired with the wrong dimmer type
  • Dead after 1–2 years — cheap unbranded driver has failed
  • Buzzing or humming — driver is overloaded or has a failing capacitor

We carry common driver sizes and brands (Meanwell, Tridonic, Osram, Philips) and can usually replace a driver on the same visit. If the LED module itself has failed, we will tell you honestly and quote a full replacement.

Downlight & Spotlight Installation

Downlights (also called recessed lights or “can lights”) are the default in most modern HDB and condo renovations. They are clean, low-profile, and very effective — but the installation matters more than people think.

We install:

  • Standard 2.5″ and 3″ GU10 downlights — for accent lighting, kitchen counters, walk-in wardrobes.
  • 3″ and 4″ LED downlights with integrated driver — the modern default. Brands we recommend: Philips, Opple, Tronic, KDK, Panasonic.
  • Adjustable / gimbal downlights — for accent lighting on artwork or feature walls.
  • IP65-rated downlights — for bathrooms and outdoor soffits where water resistance is required.

Important: Every downlight must be on a properly rated circuit, with a fire-rated hood if it is being installed in a ceiling that needs one (most HDB and condo false ceilings do). Cheap downlights without proper thermal protection are one of the most common causes of ceiling fires in Singapore. We only fit downlights from approved brands with proper Singapore Standard certification.

Track Lighting & Magnetic Track Lighting

Track lighting is the right choice for spaces that need flexibility — art walls, gallery-style shelving, kitchen islands, retail displays, or simply a room you re-arrange often.

  • Conventional track lighting — 3-circuit 240V track with adjustable spotlights. Reliable, simple, and affordable.
  • Magnetic track lighting — the newer standard. A slim aluminium track with 48V magnetic attachments (spots, floods, linear bars, pendants) that you can re-position, add, or remove without tools. Looks cleaner, runs cooler, and is much easier to reconfigure later.

We install both conventional and magnetic track systems, and we will tell you honestly which one suits your ceiling, room, and budget. Common brands: Philips, Eutrac, Nordic Light, Paulmann, and several OEM brands available in Singapore.

Cove Lighting Installation

Cove lighting — the indirect LED strip hidden in a ceiling recess that washes a wall or ceiling with soft light — is the single highest-impact lighting upgrade in any home. Done well, it is invisible during the day and transforms the room at night.

  • LED strip selection — 24V or 48V, 60–120 LEDs per metre, CRI 90+ for accurate colour rendering. We use high-density, dotless strips for the smoothest wash.
  • Profile and diffuser — aluminium profile with a frosted or opal diffuser. Without a profile, the strip looks like a row of dots. We always fit a profile for a clean, finished look.
  • Driver location — the 24V driver is bulky and generates a small amount of heat. We hide it in the ceiling void, the DB area, or a designated service point — never inside the cove itself.
  • Dimming — cove lighting is almost always dimmed. We pair the strip with a compatible trailing-edge dimmer or a 0–10V dimmer, and (if smart) a smart controller that integrates with your phone or voice assistant.

Cove lighting is the kind of job that looks simple but is unforgiving in execution. We have seen cove work redone twice by other contractors because the wrong strip density, wrong diffuser, or wrong dimmer was used. If you want it done right the first time, this is the page for that.

LED Strip Light Installation & Repair

Beyond cove lighting, we install and repair LED strip lights in:

  • Kitchen under-cabinet lighting — the single most popular LED strip application in Singapore HDB kitchens.
  • Wardrobe and walk-in closet interiors — with door-triggered sensors on request.
  • Stair tread lighting — for landed houses with feature stairs.
  • Skirting-board ambient lighting — a subtle modern touch, particularly in condo living rooms.
  • Bathroom mirror backlighting — with IP-rated strip and proper transformer location.

For repairs, the most common strip issues are failed sections (usually water damage or a bad solder joint), dead drivers, and dimmer mismatch. We diagnose and fix on the same visit in most cases.

Outdoor & Landscape Lighting

For landed houses, condo common areas, and F&B outdoor seating:

  • Wall-mounted outdoor lights — IP65 rated, with proper weatherproof conduit.
  • Garden spike lights — for trees, paths, and feature planting.
  • Step and deck lights — IP67 rated, low-voltage for safety.
  • Flood lights and security lights — with motion sensor or photocell on request.
  • Festoon / café string lights — for outdoor dining and entertaining areas.

All outdoor lighting is run on a dedicated circuit with proper RCD / RCCB protection at the DB, weatherproof junction boxes, and IP-rated cable glands. We will never run indoor-rated cable or fittings into an outdoor location.

Our Lighting Service Process

  1. Photo or plan — WhatsApp a photo of the existing light, the room, or a quick sketch showing what you want. For new installs, a ceiling plan from your ID or a simple marked-up photo is enough to quote.
  2. Site visit if needed — for new points, cove lighting, track lighting, or outdoor runs, we arrange a quick visit to confirm the cable route, ceiling type, and driver location.
  3. Fixed quote — written, transparent quote before any work begins. No “we’ll see when we open it up” surprises.
  4. Installation or repair — most single-light replacements are 30–60 minutes. Cove, track, and outdoor runs are 2–5 hours. We work clean, protect your furniture, and tidy up before we leave.
  5. Test, dim, and demonstrate — we test every light at full brightness and at the dimmed setting (where applicable), and show you the corresponding switch and MCB at the DB.
  6. EMA-compliant, LEW-supported — every install is done to Singapore Standard CP5, with proper cable sizing, earthing, and (where required) a dedicated MCB at the DB.

FAQs

For a like-for-like LED ceiling light swap (no new wiring, no new switch), some homeowners do. Singapore law, however, treats most fixed-wiring lighting work as requiring a Licensed Electrical Worker. Beyond legality, the most common DIY mistake is pairing a non-dimmable LED with a dimmer switch — a $150 mistake if the LED is damaged. A licensed electrician is the safer and usually cheaper option.

The most common cause is a failing LED driver, not the LED itself. Other causes: a non-dimmable LED paired with a dimmer switch, a loose connection at the ceiling rose, or a failing switch. We test the lot and replace only the failed component.

Yes — and ideally before the false ceiling is closed, so the wiring and driver location can be planned in. If you are already past that stage, we can usually retrofit through a small access panel. We will tell you upfront which approach makes sense for your ceiling.
