24/7 Emergency Electrician Singapore – Fast Response

Electrical emergencies do not wait for business hours. They happen on Sunday night, on Chinese New Year eve, at 2 am when half the house goes dark. And when they do, you need a number that picks up and a team that turns up.

TRUST ELECTRICIANS is a 24/7 emergency electrical service across Singapore. We pick up the phone any time, day or night, public holiday or weekend. We tell you over the phone whether it is a real emergency, and we send a licensed electrician to your door fast — usually within 30–90 minutes during the day, 60–120 minutes after hours.

When to Call an Emergency Electrician (Checklist)

Not every electrical problem is an emergency. Some can wait for the next available slot. The list below is the real “call now, don’t wait” list — if any of these apply, treat it as urgent:

  • Burning smell from a socket, switch, DB box, ceiling, or wall — even if the power is still on
  • Visible sparking from any outlet, switch, or appliance
  • Smoke from an electrical fitting, your ceiling, or inside a wall
  • Wet electrical fittings — flooding, ceiling leak into downlights, water heater leak onto the isolator
  • Repeated power trips that will not stay reset, especially with any of the above symptoms
  • A tingle or mild shock when touching an appliance, tap, or metal fitting
  • A buzzing or crackling sound from inside a wall, ceiling, or DB box
  • Total blackout in your home with no SP Services outage in the area
  • Exposed live wire — from damage, recent drilling, or an accident
  • A burning plastic or rubber smell with no clear source

If you are not sure whether your situation is an emergency, call us anyway. We will tell you in under two minutes whether it can wait, and what to do in the meantime.

What We Do First (Over the Phone)

When you call our emergency line, the first thing we do is phone triage. This is a free, no-obligation conversation that takes 60–90 seconds and often saves both of us wasted time.

We will ask:

  • What is the symptom? (smell, spark, trip, no power, water, shock)
  • Is it still happening, or did it stop?
  • Is the whole home affected, or just one room / circuit?
  • Are your neighbours’ lights on? (to rule out an SP Services outage)
  • Is there any water, smoke, or visible damage?

From those answers, we can usually tell you one of three things:

  1. “Switch off the affected circuit at the DB, do not use it, and we will be there within 60 minutes.” — a real emergency that needs a site visit now.
  2. “This is an SP Services outage. Call 1800-778-8888 first — no electrician can help until SP fixes the supply.” — saves you a call-out fee for a network fault.
  3. “It is safe to wait until tomorrow morning. Switch off the affected circuit and we will be there at 9 am with the right parts.” — a problem that feels urgent at 11 pm but is genuinely safe to schedule.

The phone triage is what makes the difference between a “real” emergency and a “feels like” one. We will be honest with you either way.

Power Trip & Tripping Breakers

A power trip that will not stay reset is the single most common emergency call we get. There are four underlying causes, and the right fix depends on which one:

  • Overloaded circuit — too many high-draw appliances on one circuit (typically kitchen or aircon). A common HDB scenario: aircon + water heater + kettle on a 20A circuit.
  • Short circuit — a live wire touching a neutral or earth wire because of damaged insulation. The breaker trips the instant you reset it, sometimes with a flash or a burning smell.
  • Earth leakage — current leaking to earth through a faulty appliance, wet wiring, or a degraded RCCB. The RCCB (or ELCB) trips, not the MCB.
  • Faulty appliance or plug — a failing water heater, fridge compressor, or similar. The trip clears when the appliance is unplugged.

For the full diagnostic guide, see our Power Trip Electrician Singapore page. For a complete short-circuit repair overview, see the next section.

Short Circuit Repair (Merged Topic)

Short circuits are the most dangerous of the four — a live wire in contact with a neutral or earth can generate enough heat in milliseconds to start a fire. The signs are unmistakable: the breaker trips the instant you reset it, sometimes with a visible flash, sometimes with a small pop or a burning smell. In a concealed wiring scenario, you might also notice a discoloured patch on the wall, a warm spot, or a faint electrical smell even when the power is off.

What we do on a short-circuit emergency call:

  1. Isolate the circuit at the DB to remove the immediate danger.
  2. Identify the fault location using an insulation resistance tester and (for concealed wiring) a cable tracer and thermal camera.
  3. Open the minimum amount of wall, ceiling, or floor needed to access the fault.
  4. Replace the damaged cable section with new, properly rated cable.
  5. Re-terminate, test, and re-commission the circuit.
  6. LEW endorsement + CoC for the repair.

A short-circuit repair is rarely a “quick fix” — even when the fault is a single damaged section, the testing and re-termination takes time. But it is the right call to make, and it is the call that prevents a fire. See our Electrical Wiring Repair page for the broader wiring scope.

Total Power Failure / Blackout

A total power failure is different from a single-circuit trip. If the entire home is dark and your neighbours still have power, the fault is inside your installation. Common causes:

  • HDB electrical loading trip — your cumulative load has exceeded the SP-approved limit, and the main switch has tripped
  • Failed main breaker — the main MCB itself has failed (uncommon but happens, especially with older breakers)
  • Loose main lug — a loose connection at the main incoming, sometimes after thermal cycling

What we do on a power-failure emergency call:

  1. Check the corridor to rule out an SP Services outage (if the corridor is dark too, it is SP’s problem, not ours)
  2. Inspect the main switch and the main incoming for visible damage
  3. Measure the incoming supply to confirm whether SP’s supply is reaching your DB
  4. Identify and isolate the cause (overload, failed main, loose connection)
  5. Restore supply with a temporary fix if needed (reset, re-termination, replacement main breaker)
  6. Schedule follow-up work for any non-urgent remedial items

For the full diagnostic guide, see our Power Failure Electrician Singapore page.

Sparking Sockets & Burning Smell (Merged Topic)

A sparking socket is one of those symptoms that ranges from “minor” to “life-threatening,” depending on the cause. The same applies to a burning smell.

Minor causes (still worth fixing, but not an emergency):

  • A single small spark when unplugging a load — usually normal
  • A faint “new electronics” smell from a recently installed appliance

Serious causes (call us now):

  • A spark or flash when you plug something in
  • A burning smell from a socket, switch, or DB box — even if intermittent
  • Discoloured or warm face plates
  • Crackling or buzzing sounds from inside a wall

What we do on a sparking / burning-smell emergency call:

  1. Isolate the affected circuit at the DB
  2. Inspect the suspect fitting (socket, switch, or DB) for visible damage
  3. Test the circuit with a multifunction installation tester
  4. Replace the damaged component (socket, switch, MCB, or section of cable) on the same visit if parts are available
  5. LEW endorsement + CoC for the repair
  6. Recommend a full PEI if the issue is symptomatic of broader wiring degradation

Our Response Time & Coverage (Islandwide, 24 Hours)

For genuine emergencies, our standard response is:

  • Islandwide Singapore — 30–90 minutes during working hours, 60–120 minutes after hours
  • Public holidays — same response, with a small surcharge published on our Electrical Services Price List page
  • For AMC clients — priority same-hour response for any emergency

The call-out fee and the labour for emergency work are quoted over the phone in advance, so there are no surprises when the electrician arrives. If we find something additional on site that genuinely affects safety, we pause, explain it, and quote separately before continuing.

What to Do Before the Electrician Arrives

A few safe steps you can take right now if you have an electrical emergency:

  1. Switch off the affected circuit at the DB box. If you are not sure which one, switch off the main.
  2. If there is smoke, fire, or water — call SCDF (995) first. The fire / water has to be made safe before an electrician can work.
  3. Do not touch any wet electrical fittings — even if the power is off at your DB, the fitting may still be live from the water.
  4. Do not keep resetting a tripped breaker that will not stay up. The fault is still there.
  5. Open windows if there is a burning smell, and evacuate the room.
  6. Take a photo of the affected switch / socket / DB before we arrive — it speeds up the diagnosis.

If you smell burning, see sparking, or have any doubt, do not try to fix it yourself. Call us.
