Adding a New Power Point or Socket
Behind the new TV, beside the study desk, on the kitchen island, next to the bed. We add new power points in three common ways:
Concealed (chase into wall)
We cut a narrow channel in the plaster or brick, run the cable inside and make good. Best for renovations. A little more dust and noise, but invisible once plastered and painted.
From an existing spur
If there is already a 13A socket nearby, we can sometimes run a new spur cable from it. Fastest and cheapest, but only where the existing circuit has spare capacity.
We check the circuit first
For HDB and most condos, we always check the circuit's current load. A 20A circuit (typical for HDB power sockets) can safely feed about 4–5 sockets under normal use. If we are adding the 6th, we may need to run a fresh circuit from the DB.

Socket Repair & Replacement (Cracked, Loose, Sparking)
Most socket problems fall into one of four buckets, and all are repairable on the same visit.
- Cracked or broken face plateUsually a knock from a sofa or vacuum. We replace the face plate and check the back wiring.
- Loose socket (plug falls out)The internal grip has worn out. We replace the socket mechanism, or the full plate if it is one piece.
- Sparking or a flash when plugging inAlmost always loose back-terminal screws or a worn mechanism. We re-terminate, replace and test under load.
- Burnt or discoloured socketSustained arcing or overload. We replace the socket, inspect the cable and re-test. Heat-damaged cable may need wiring repair.

Choosing a socket
13A vs 15A vs 3-Pin vs Universal
Singapore uses a few different socket formats, and choosing the right one matters.
13A, BS-1363 (Type G)
The standard square-pin socket in every HDB and condo, used for everything from kettles to TVs. All our replacements are 13A unless you ask otherwise.
15A round-pin (Type M)
Used for some air-conditioning units, larger water heaters and certain commercial equipment. If your aircon spur has a 15A round-pin socket, keep it 15A. We carry them in stock.
3-pin Type I
Australia / China style. Uncommon in Singapore homes, but seen on some commercial and industrial equipment. We supply and fit these on request.
Universal sockets
Accept a wide range of plug types. Useful for guest rooms, rentals and home offices with imported equipment. Clipsal and Schneider variants rated for 230V.
1-Gang, 2-Gang, 3-Gang or 4-Gang?
The "gang" count is how many sockets fit on one face plate: a balance between convenience and circuit capacity.

Aircon Power Point & Isolator Installation
Aircon spurs in Singapore are typically a dedicated 15A or 20A circuit from the DB, ending in an aircon isolator: a weatherproof switch near the indoor unit, rather than a regular socket. This is the safe, code-compliant way to wire an air-conditioner.

Aircon on a regular 13A socket?It is a common shortcut in older HDB flats. We strongly recommend upgrading to a proper 15A / 20A isolator: a small job with a real safety benefit.

Can I just replace a socket myself?
Singapore law (Electricity Act, Cap. 89A) requires fixed-wiring electrical work to be carried out by a Licensed Electrical Worker. Replacing a socket is generally treated as fixed-wiring work, so a licensed electrician is the legal standard. A wrong connection at the back of a socket is also a common cause of house fires.
How long does it take to add a new power point?
A surface-trunking add is typically 1–2 hours. A concealed (chase-into-wall) add is 2–4 hours, plus making good. It depends on the wall material, the cable route and whether we need a new MCB at the DB.
What brand of socket do you supply?
We supply Schneider, Legrand, Clipsal and Hager: widely available in Singapore, BS-1363 compliant and backed by manufacturer warranty. If you have already bought a particular brand or model, we are happy to install it.
Do I need to upgrade my DB to add a new power point?
Not always. If the existing circuit has spare capacity (a 20A circuit feeding 3 sockets can usually take a 4th), we spur off the existing circuit. If the circuit is full, we add a new MCB at the DB and run a fresh cable. We tell you upfront which option your installation needs.
My socket sparked once. Is it safe to keep using it?
Probably not, but it depends. A single small spark when unplugging a load is normal. A spark when plugging in, especially with a "pop" or flash, points to loose back-terminal screws or a worn mechanism. Stop using that socket and get it checked: a 30-minute visit is much cheaper than a house fire.
Can I get a 2-pin Euro socket for my imported appliance?
Yes. We can supply and fit 2-pin Schuko (Type F) or Euro (Type C) sockets on request. We tell you upfront whether your appliance needs a step-down transformer, and always fit a properly earthed outlet rather than a cheap ungrounded adaptor.
